To apply for the award, please submit the following:

  1. A current resume.
  2. A current transcript (this does not need to be issued directly from the institution).
  3. An essay of up to 400 words should include a brief and clear description of the proposed project, and address the applicant’s professional goals, learning expectations of the internship experience, and any skills or background that might benefit visual resources.
  4. The names of two professional or scholastic references with address, telephone numbers, and email addresses.
  5. Host institution and contact information of internship supervisor.
  6. A brief endorsement from the internship supervisor attesting to the value of the proposed project, including a statement indicating the supervisor’s willingness to provide guidance throughout and a brief evaluation at the conclusion of the internship experience.

Host Institutions

Institutional host selection is the responsibility of award applicants. VRA’s Visual Resources Emerging Professionals and Students (VREPS) have compiled a list of 2021-2021 host institutions, also available in a map version. Please note that this list is provided as a courtesy to applicants. Other institutions are also eligible to host VRAF interns.

Note to potential host institutions: You are invited to add your information to the VRAF 2021-2022 Internship List by sending an email to VREPS co-chair Summer Shetenhelm ( with the following information: institution name, contact person, address, telephone, email, URL, and a brief description of the internship.

Deadlines for 2021-2022

  • 7/23/2021; Deadline for submission of applications to the VRAF Internship Award Committee. 
  • 8/16/2021; VRAF Internship Award Committee announces the award recipient for 2021-2021.

For Fall internships, the deadline for submission of evaluation forms and documents by the intern and the host institution will be within 30 days of the completion of the internship.

For Spring internships, the evaluation forms and documents must be received by March 1, 2021—regardless of whether the internship hours have been completed. In this scenario, the evaluation report is submitted first, and final verification of completed hours may be submitted until June 30, 2021.

Monies from the Internship Award may not be used to cover indirect costs at institutions.
